Joining a Class

Classes are limited to eight students  (with a minimum of two) in order to ensure that you receive the attention you need to best learn the craft. 

 

To reserve a spot in class you must purchase a class package in advance. You may do this in person at the store, by clicking the Class Packages tab, or over the phone ((973) 821-5005), using a credit card.

Class Policies

You may cancel up to one week in advance for a full refund.

Any cancellations made within 48 hours of the class will be for store credit only.

No refunds, partial or otherwise, will be issued for classes not attended during the sessions and no refund will be issued once the session has begun.

Beginner Knitting………………....................................................…..............................$75

 

Learn the basics skills you need to know in order to knit many types of projects.   This is a three part workshop: in part 1, you will learn to cast on, and make the knit stitch (you will be assigned a handwarmer pattern for homework); in part 2, you will check your work, learn to make a purl stitch and how to bind off (you will be assigned a basketweave cowl for homework); in part 3, you will learn to whip stitch a seam in order to complete the handwarmers and cowl.

Skills required:

This is a perfect opportunity to get help on projects that require more than a quick fix, but require less help than a private lesson.  Gretchen will work with you directly to sort your mistakes or concerns, answer any questions and get your knitting back on track. 

 

If you're taking a workshop, this is a great way to get assistance between classes if you need it.

Learn to make socks and use the Magic Loop technique at the same time.  This is a three part workshop: in part 1, you will learn to cast on and knit in the round with magic loop; in part 2, you will turn the heel of a basic flap and gusset sock; in part 3, you will graft toe stitches and cast on for the second sock.

Skills required:

You must know how to cast on, knit, purl, bind off, easily recognize knit from purl, have a solid understanding of stockinette and ribbing and be able to create both without assistance or supervision.  You must also know how to knit in the round.

Toe Up Socks, Two at a Time!……….............................................................…..….......$75

 

In this two part workshop, you will learn how to knit two socks at the same time beginning at the toe.  Part 1 will teach you to cast on two toes at the same time and to work two separate objects in the round.  In Part 2, you will turn the heel of the first sock and be prepared to turn the second heel and continue working the cuff.

Skills required:

You must know how to cast on, knit, purl, bind off, easily recognize knit from purl, have a solid understanding of stockinette and ribbing and be able to create both without assistance or supervision. You must also know how to knit in the round using magic loop.  Prior sock knitting experience is a plus!

Learn not only how to create polished looking short rows using a variety of techniques, but also when to use short rows and how to adapt the instructions in a pattern so that you can make the type of short row you like best.  During this workshop, you will use short rows to create different shapes (wedge, curve, maybe even a mini sock heel) in order to develop a better understanding of how this technique can fit into your knitting.

Have you knit all the pieces of your dream sweater, but don't know how to put them together?  Do you have a bag of afghan squares you're too uncomfortable assembling?  Learn to create professionally finished objects in this 3 hour workshop.  You will be provided with an easy pattern for a pieced newborn sweater to be knit before class.  During the workshop, you will learn the best order and stitching technique to assemble those pieces neatly and effectively.

Brioche Basics...........................................……………….............................................$50

 

Learn the Brioche Knit and Brioche Purl, then combine them to make a two color cowl.   Using a 16" circular needle, you will knit a headband or narrow cowl during class.  By learning brioche in the round with two colors, you are better able to keep track of where you are and read your knitting as you work.  You will learn to identify and correct mistakes, as well as bind off.

Starting with stripes, learn the basics of working with more than one color, carrying unused colors up the side of your work, and making your stripes look great in ribbing.  You will also learn slip stitch and mosaic color patterns that look complicated, but aren't.
